Roderick Rod Marcel Dancy
10-16-1971 - 04-20-2025
Obituary
Roderick (Rod) Marcel Dancy, Sr. was born October 16, 1971, to Wilma Kate Dancy and Clarence Batain, Sr.; both preceded him in death.
Roderick attended Brighton High School for a short period of time and completed his school years at Midfield High School. He went on to attend Lawson State College and obtained his barbering licence. After finishing barbering college he worked several years under Nathaniel (Nay) Hardy as an apprentice at Today’s Barber Shop in Ensley, Alabama.
Rod later became an entrepreneur and opened his own shop, “Attractions Barber Shop” in Forestdale, Alabama.
After barbering for several years he worked numerous jobs while continuing to barber for friends, family, and loyal patrons part time. His last job was with UAB Hospital at Birmingham. Shortly after working for UAB he became ill and could no longer work. Although he was very ill, he remained a loyal Alabama fan, “Roll Tide.”
Rod gave his life to Christ later in life, while attending Thirgood C.M.E. Church, Birmingham, Alabama, where he was a trustee. Roderick also became a Mason while attending Thirgood.
He had four siblings precede him in death: Yvonne Smith, Ervin Batain, Linda Craig, and Larry Batain.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Brittany Dancy; son, Roderick Marcel Dancy, Jr.; grandson, Kashmir (Smooth) Marcel Dancy; siblings, Evanne Gibson, Clarence Batain, Jr., Noah Batain (Ardis), Ray Batain, Geneatha Johnson (Kenneth), Derrick Dancy, Shelia Lanier (Christopher), Christy Steele (Thomas), and Lawrence LaGrande; a special brother and sister, Terrence Stewart and Janice Holmes; special friends, Loleta (Lisa) Jones, Ara Chaney, and Tamara Henderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
