Mary Alice Chapman Russell
12-15-1958 - 08-15-2025
Obituary
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of Mary Alice Chapman Russell, who departed this world peacefully on August 15, 2025, in Hueytown, Alabama, at the age of 66.
Born on December 15, 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama, she was a Westend High School Graduate. Mary Alice was the beloved daughter of Henry Chapman and Alice Mary Chapman. She grew up in a home filled with love, music, and laughter; values she carried with her throughout her life.
Mary Alice was a devoted mother of four to Danyell Russell, Shamika Russell, Charles Russell III (Quin Russell), and Christopher Russell (Adriana Russell). Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren: Malaysia McCray, Justice McCray, DeMontrez McCray, De’Autre McCray, Daniel Holmes, Maya Holmes, Camron L. Russell, Carmen N. Russell, Casey D. Russell, Charlie M. Russell, Christopher B. Russell, Jr., and Chesli D. Russell. She loved have them gathered around her, talking, laughing, and sharing stories. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, where love was spoken fluently and music was always in the air
A gifted singer, Mary Alice found deep fulfillment in song. Whether lifting her voice in church, humming softly in the
kitchen, or serenading her grandchildren, her music was an extension of her soul. Singing was her way of expressing joy,
faith, and connection, it was how she celebrated life and brought comfort to others.
She is survived by her brothers, Ernest Kirksey, James Kirksey, and Kenneth Chapman, and lovingly remembered by all
who knew her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Mary Chapman; two brothers, George Chapman and Henry
Chapman, Jr.; and two sisters, Betsy Kirksey and Lisa Ann Chapman, whose memories she held close to her heart.
Mary Alice’s life was defined by her quiet strength, generous spirit, and deep devotion to family. Her voice may no longer fill the room, but its echo lives on in the hearts of those she touched. As it is written in Isaiah 66:13: “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” This verse reflects the nurturing spirit Mary Alice embodied throughout her life as a comforter, caregiver, and source of unwavering love. Though she has left this world, her spirit remains woven into the hearts of those she loved, guiding us with the same grace and warmth she always shared.
