Obituary
Evelyn Moye was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loved and cherished by many family members and friends.
Evelyn was born on July 19, 1953, in Birmingham Alabama, where she lived all her life. She attended McCaw Elementary School, Western Olin High School, and also cosmetology school. She was the second oldest child of late Nathaniel Booker, Sr., and Velmira Booker. From her earliest days, she embodied kindness, strength, and faith—qualities that would define her life and touch everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was a devoted woman of God, and her Christian journey began early in life. Evelyn joined Trinity C.M.E Church in Pratt City and worshiped there until her passing. Her faith guided her steps and gave her the strength to endure life’s trials with unwavering grace. Her heart was as generous as her smile was warm. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen, loved, and valued. Whether through a comforting word, a warm meal, or her quiet prayers, she gave selflessly of herself to her family, friends, church, and community.
Family was the center of Evelyn’s world. She raised her children and grandchildren with patience, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her home was always a place of comfort, laughter, and togetherness. She taught us by example the importance of faith, family, and perseverance. Even in difficult times, she remained steadfast and strong, showing us what it means to walk with dignity and to trust in God’s plan. Those who knew her will remember her as a woman of elegance and resilience—gentle yet strong, humble yet mighty in spirit. She had a smile that could brighten the darkest day and a heart that carried an endless capacity for love. To her grandchildren, she was more than a grandmother; she was a second mother, a safe haven, and a source of wisdom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel Booker, Sr., and Velmira Booker; and daughter Tara Hammell.
Evelyn leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness. She is survived by her devoted son, Calvin Crawford; precious and loving grandchildren, Charlie Johnson, Jr., (Pooh), Keyanna Lumpkin (Punkin), Breunna Crawford (Bre), Khemistri Harvey (Kimmy), Kailynn Grant, Kannon Grant, Malachi Crawford; wonderful great-grandchildren, Markell Johnson and Josiah Plummer; and countless friends and extended family who will cherish her memory. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with loved ones who went before her and that she rests in eternal peace.
While we grieve, we also rejoice in the gift of her life and the lessons she left behind. Her spirit will live on in each of us, and we will strive to honor her by carrying forward the love, faith, and strength she instilled in us.
