Obituary
Born in Hueytown, Alabama, to the late Bernard Cook and Mary Minnifield Cook, Dorothy, affectionately known as “Velma,” lived a life rooted in service, love, and faith. She worked faithfully at Hueytown Elementary School until her retirement, touching countless lives with her dedication and warmth.
Dorothy was united in holy matrimony with Mr. O. C. Deveridge and joined New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where she worshipped under the leadership of Reverend Joseph Edwards, Sr.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Cook; mother, Mary Minnifield Cook; husband, O. C. Deveridge; brothers, Ed and James; sisters, Lena Mae, Bernice, Gertrude, and Lucille; grandchild, Calvin Jr.; and great-grandchild, Christian.
Cherishing her loving memory: her sister, Doris; brothers, Bernard Jr. (Rosemary), Lewis (Marquetta), Elbert, Michael (Rose), Humphrey, and Johnnie (Dinitia); children, daughter, Gwendolyn, and son, Calvin (Tina); grandchildren, Robert, Christopher, and Erik; and great-grandchildren, Joneciyah, Miyah, Kristen, Teniyah, Christopher Jr., and Chrisette.
