Michael Curtis Carter
12-24-1945 - 08-06-2024
Obituary
Michael Curtis Carter was born to the late Leon John Carter, Jr., and Lillie Mae Bland Carter on December 24, 1945, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. His arrival was quite a surprise since he was not due until March. However, he was a wonderful Christmas gift. The doctors gave baby Michael one week to live, but God had other plans. The name Michael literally means “Gift from God”. Michael spent his formative years in Toledo, Ohio, with his two older siblings, Leonyl Janice and Leon III.
He graduated from Toledo Scott High School in 1963 and received his B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Tennessee State University. Michael was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at Beta Omicron Chapter in 1963. Michael also served his country as a captain in the Airforce. He received his Master’s degree in School Administration from the University of Akron in 1976. He was a man of many talents, interests, and hobbies. He was a published author, avid fisherman and chess player, and the Cleveland Browns number one fan!
Reverend Carter married the love of his life, Loretta Lee Woods in 1969. They moved to Akron, Ohio, and raised their family. Mr. Carter, as he was affectionately addressed by his students, worked in the Akron Public School System for 25 years as a teacher and a principal.
Reverend Carter and his wife relocated to Fairfield, Alabama, in 2004 and joined New Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was the Associate Minister ordained by the late Pastor Jimmy Harville. He later served as acting pastor for years until his health issues prevented him.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Loretta; sons, Prince Rue (Akeem) Winston Carter, and Justin (Traci) Carter; daughter, Anastasia (Antony) Scott; his sister, Jan House; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Special “Thank You” to his brothers and sisters-in-love, the Woods Family.

Surely we will all miss our Brother Mike... and surely the sadness we all feel will linger on for many days, weeks, and years to come. What a genuine and just all-around great guy he was. I personally always wanted to shake Mike's hand, visit with him, go fishing with him, and meet and break bread with his family - but, sadly, distance prevented that from ever becoming a reality.
But, if you're like me, surely it has to bring a smile and a warm place deep down in your inner man to know what a celebration there was in heaven from the time when they received Brother Mike through those pearly gates - and I'm sure it's still going on even now.
I know going to heaven and being with our Lord is something Brother Mike longed for all of his Christian life, which was easily seen through his worship, sharing, and loving (giving/receiving) friendships he had with so many people who he touched, and who will remember him on this earth - even long after his passing. Prayers and condolences will continue for a long time for his family and friends.
Rest in Peace Brother Mike. I am so thankful for our having crossed paths in this life - at least until we meet again.

Mr.Carter was a good building principal and very caring towards children. He was a no nonsense and fun person. It was an honor to be under his leadership at Crosby.

I had limited personal contact with Shipahoy41 except when he sent me a personal message on Crappie.com. I Read His Posts, liked the ones I thought were the better ones and thanked Him on some too for sharing something new to all of us. I found his approach to asking for Jigheads unique as He messaged me "You can send me some Jigheads". He got my attention. Certainly Mr. Mike was able to read a person and communicate to them in a penetrating way. We conversed after that as well as I did send Him Jigheads. I do not pray in public as I believe it weakens my Mojo but I let Mr. Mike know that and passed my prayers quietly supporting him once he didn't reply to my messages just checking in, to see how He was doing. I was saddened to hear of his passing and send my deepest sympathy to all that miss Him. Very Kind & Respectfully,
John Guillot
