Daisy Mae Henderson

06-18-1943 - 04-27-2024

Obituary

Daisy Mae Henderson was born June 18, 1943, in Jefferson County, Alabama to the late Alec and Willie Mae Nelson. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Brighton, Alabama under the leadership of Reverend Daniels.

Daisy was educated in the Jefferson County school system and graduated from Brighton High School, Class of 1961. Daisy worked at Lloyd Nolan Hospital and retired after 25 years. After retirement, she became a Home Health Nurse for several years. Daisy unselfishly took on the greatest job of all and focused on being a hands-on grandmother and great-grandmother.

Daisy took on the role of so many things, to so many people. She was known as “Mama”, “Grandma Daisy”, “Ms. Daisy”, and “Ms. D” by all those that she loved as her own. Anyone who met her felt welcomed and at home.

Daisy departed this life peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Nelson, Johnny Nelson, Alex Elmore, and Rueben Nelson, Sr.; sister, Mattie Nelson Garrett; and children, Timothy Nelson, Yolanda Henderson, and Bruce Nelson.

Daisy leaves to cherish her memory: her brother, Augustus (Beverly) Nelson; children, Linda Shields, Kirby Nelson, and Sherry Henderson; goddaughter, Elaine Holifield; grandchildren, Love Barnes, Bianca Holifield, Shakemia Harris, Shakeithia (Brandon) Thomas, Kira Nelson, Timothy Bennett, and Joi Croskey; and great-grandchildren, Azariah, Jaiden, Akayla, Jakari, Joseph, Jacob, Zahara, and Adelaide. She also leaves to cherish her sweetheart and friend, Oscar Cole, and a host of nieces, nephews, special cousins, and friends.
